• Physical Appearance

  You'll love Orpington chicken if you're looking for a slight buffer chicken. This large, heavy chicken has a stocky body that looks like little balls of fluff. Its U-shaped silhouette is especially striking in roosters.

  Well, the hens are no less beautiful, with subtle classic colors. Despite their short backs and legs, these chickens still look adorable. The dense plumage covers most of their legs, so only a few are visible.

  

• Plumage & Color

  If you like smaller flocks, Bantams are also a great option. Roosters weigh about 38 oz, and hens are slightly lighter at 34 oz. One of my favorite Orpington chicken facts is that they are thick enough to survive the winter.

  These chickens lay large to extra-large eggs (generally 200 eggs per year). Mathematically, Orpington chickens produce about 4 eggs per week. I have felt utter disbelief at their continued production, even in winter. It turns out these chickens were made for the cold season.
